Be A Winner
Do you remember how much there was to learn …
–when you began a new job?
-on your first day as a rookie on a sport team?
-when a teacher or leader instructed you to “begin with the basics”?
There’s an old, but inspiring, story about the legendary football coach, Vince Lombardi. If his Green Bay Packers lost to a team they should have beaten, he would call a practice the very next morning. With a stern look, Lombardi would begin, “OK, we go back to the basics this morning.” Holding a football high enough for all to see he would yell, ”Gentlemen, this is a football!” Lombardi, who lead his team to three consecutive world championships, believed that excellence could be best achieved by understanding and perfecting the basics – know your position, learn how to do it right, and do it with all your might! Christians young and old must never forget the basics. We must remember who God is and who we are. God’s Word reminds us that, “He has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son He loves. For everything was created by Him, in heaven and on earth … all things have been created through a Him and for Him” (Colossians 1:13, 16). Through a personal commitment to Christ, you are positioned to be a stewardship winner by following “the basics” of God’s Word.
- Affirm God as the Creator and Lord over all you have.
- Acknowledge your accountability as manager of His world.
- Accept the challenges of faithfully managing what God entrusts to you.
Enjoy the life God gives you! Remember the basics! Plan to be a winner in God’s sight!
